Can you stand the HEAT (stress)
this FALL
Dan Work 2022 defending Champion vs Van Smith 2016 Champion
It is my observation that both
players didn't handle the HEAT real well. The match was extremely close throughout
the entire 18 holes. Smith carried his poor warm up session directly to
the first tee. After 9 holes the match is dead even. Work comes out
on the back 9 with a nice par to Smith's bogey to go one up. #11 Work
doubles to Smith's bogey and the match is back even. Both players are fighting
all types of golf demons. Smith saves par out of the greenside bunker on
#13 as the match continues to see saw back and forth. Work lets Smith off
the hook on #14 as both players double bogey.
#15 Smith has no golf swing and almost drives OB left as Work drives past the
lake in the woods right. Smith tries a simple punch to safety,
but hits a tree and luckily glances right in fairway. Work chips
out nicely in front of the green and chips up to 12 feet. Smith from 80
yards to the hole finds the left fringe to a middle pin some 28 feet
away. Smith shocks himself to the core lucking in the 28
footer for par to Works bogey. #16 Smith hits first and somehow
finds the green 30 feet short of a back pin. Work not to be outdone hits
a quality shot right over Smith's ball leaving 15 feet. This just
can't happen as Smith sinks his 30 footer for birdie
and Work two putts for par. #17 Smith hits
a fair drive down right center as Work drives in right woods. Both
players lay up for short iron shots in, but Smith is down
right side in the rough leaving 80 yards to carry a greenside bunker to
a front pin. Work chips nicely to 15 feet. Smith can't hit a
frigging 80 yard shot on the green and catches the right greenside
bunker. Smith comes out of bunker to 9 feet and misses par putt as Work
converts nice two putt par sending the match to #18 dead even again. It's
pretty ugly out there and I can't help wondering what
my riding partner (Stewart) is thinking. (THESE PLAYERS SUCK) #18 Work drives in woods right and Smith's
tee shot catches a limb down right side not even in play leaving over 200 yards
to the green. Smith smothers a layup down the left rough leaving 80 yards
to clear another one of those bunkers. His shot barely makes it over to
the front fringe leaving 35 feet uphill to a middle pin. Work chips
nicely up to 15 feet pin high. Smith remarkably putts up the hill to 1
foot for bogey. Work is now in a situation where he can win the
match from 15 feet with a made par. Smith has the scorecard playoff hole
covered with a par on #1. Work makes a nice stroke, but the putt comes up
4 inches short dead in the hole. It doesn't get any closer than
this. SMITH WINS the CUP ugly in a scorecard playoff.
