Can you Stand the HEAT this Fall.

#1.  With no player showing evidence of nervousness let the game begin.

Mike (M) Ed S. (E)

The scorecard playoff is #1.

M.  Launches his opening tee shot starting down the left drifting to the right rough.

E.  A big drive down the right center

M.  From the rough M. pushes his iron shot right of the greenside bunkers and cart path.

E.  A short chip from just 59 yards comes to rest 28 feet behind the front pin location.

M.  A fine chip over the bunker to 4 feet.

E.  His 28 footer comes up 5 feet short and he misses the all important par putt.

M.  Follows as his par putt misses.  Could someone regret the short misses on playoff hole if the match ends up tied?

#2.

M.  A slight mishit down the right side leaving 160 yards in.

E.  Pushes tee shot well right into the trees.

E.  Punches out to the left bunker

M.  His iron comes up short right of the green.

E.  Blast out and ball races by some 25 feet.

M.  Chips up to 9 feet and two putts for bogey.

E.  Putts down the hill to 3 feet and makes putt to save bogey.  The scorecard playoff off is still in play.

#3

M.  Mis-hits tee shot and barely clears water  plugging in the bank.

E.  A fortunate skip off the water coming to rest on the bank.

M. Taking a free drop he chips past the back pin to the fringe leaving 30 feet.

E.  Chips to 20 feet left of the pin.

M.  Putts to 4 feet and makes bogey putt.

E.  Makes a 3 footer to save bogey.  To my knowledge a scorecard playoff has never gone this long.

#4

M.  Drives long with his patented left to righter coming to rest in the predictable right rough.

E.  Drives down the middle some 50 yards past M.

M.  Comes out of the rough down to 81 yards in.

E.  Second shot from the crossing cart path down the left side leaving only 50 yards in.

M..Third shot comes to rest pin high just off putting surface in the rough.

E.  Short chip doesn’t quite reach the fringe.

M.  From the rough a short chip leaving 6 feet and misses for bogey.

E.  Has an easy 20 footer uphill to a front pin, but putts past 4 feet and misses par putt.

The scorecard playoff hole goes on.

#5

M.  Shot starts out center, but continues right and catches the rough leaving 100 yards to a middle pin

E.. Drills one down the middle long avoiding the lake on the left.

M.  Iron shot from rough is fat leaving 35 yards.

E.  From only 50 yards his iron to the green is a good one, but comes to rest 25 feet above the middle pin leaving a difficult putt.

M.  Chips up only to the fringe.  Putts up past hole 4 feet and misses for a double bogey better known as zero.

E.  Using extreme care on the 25 foot downhiller lags nicely to one foot and par capturing the scorecard playoff hole if necessary.

#6

M.  With a little bit of anger smokes a long one down the middle.

E.  Not to be outdone he smashes one down the middle blowing by M. 60 yards

M.  From 95 yards catches his iron slightly thin, but comes to rest on back fringe to a back pin.

E.  From only 60 yards out a slight mis-hit barely makes it to the front fringe.

E.  Three putts for bogey

M.  A nice 2 putt par

#7

M.  A beauty in the fairway past right bunker

E.  From the silver tee box flies the right bunker in the air.

M.  A quality iron shot  leaving just 45 yards

E.  Iron shot matches M scooting by almost making it to the front fringe

M.  Mike chips to 12 feet to the front pin and two putts for par.

E.  Hits a poor 1st putt and an ends up two putting from there for a par.

#8

M.  Tee shot comes up 30 yards short of the green

E.  Tee shot just skirts left bunker missing a rack and comes to rest just 15 feet behind the middle pin.

M.  Chips to barley on the putting surface.

E.  With the downhiller he putts by 3 feet and makes it for a par.

M.  Two putts from long distance for bogey.

#9

M.  Drives sails through the trees left coming to rest in the rough 150 yards out.

E.  Another beauty down the middle leaving only about 80 yards in.

M.  Rough grabs his club resulting a wet ball in the lake.

E.  Chips past pin to back fringe.

M.  His fourth shot finds the green, but 30 feet short of the pin where he misses for a double.

E.  With a serious advantage he putts down the hill 30 feet past and then 4 putts from that location for a matching double bogey.

AT the TURN

Ed S. +1 ½ to Mike’s -2 and still anyone’s match.

#10..

M.  Drives deep into left trees 35-40 yards from fairway.

E.  A short drive down left side finding rough, but right of cart path.

M. From the woods catches a branch not advancing very far

E.  Punches out down the fairway

M.  Knockdown iron shot finally finds the fairway leaving 95 yards in

E.  A smothered low one advancing a short distance down the fairway.

M.  His 4th shot comes up short right of the green

E.  From 50 yards hits deep into the green to a front pin.

M. Chips up 5 feet past pin a misses putt for a double.

E.  From the long putt back downhill he 3 putts for a double.

#11.

M.  Tee shot has distance, but catches right rough.

E.  Another long drive down the left side just in the rough, but only 75 yards in.

M.  From 135 yards to a middle pin shot skips over the bunker leaving 40 feet.

E.  Chips up to just off the fringe.  Putts up the hill to 25 feet and 3 putts for a double.

M.  Putts to 4 feet, but misses the critical par.  E giving M many chances, but he isn’t taking advantage.

#12

E.  Drives to left rough leaving 150 yards

M.  A good one down the right side leaving only 96 yards

E.  Misses green to the right,,  Chips up to the putting surface and two putts for bogey.

M. Chips on to nine feet and two putts for a much needed par.

#13

M.  Smothers tee shot only 100 yards.

E.  A quality shot to 9 feet right of the middle pin.

M. Chips up 18 feet past and his par putts comes painfully hanging on the lip.

E.  Make his nine foot for birdie and it could eventually be good enough for a greennie.

#14

M.  He comes through with his best drive of the day down the center cutting and avoiding the bunker.

E.  Matches M’s drive down the left side a yard from going in the lake.

E and M both lay up nicely

E  From 80 yards pitches to 48 feet left of the middle pin.

M From about same distance pitches to 35 feet left on a similar line.

E.  Three putts for bogey

M. Two putts for par

#15

M.. Drives to right rough

E.  A beautiful drive down the center leaving only 50 yards

M. Smothers an iron shot travelling only 20 yards

E.  Iron shot on the green to 15 feet and records a 2 putt par.

M.  Pulls 3rd shot to bunker and it goes downhill from that point for a double.

If M. can record an Eagle and two birdies coming in there might be a chance.

#16

M.  Drives to right rough

E.  A long one down the center well past the crossing cartpath.

IT IS MY OBSERVATION THAT MIKE IS NOT OLD ENOUGH TO COMPETE WITH ED S. TODAY

M.  Iron shot to 50 yards right of green

E.  Chips to just short of front fringe.

M.  Chip to the green takes crazy hop coming to rest short left.

M.  Doesn’t get up and down and records a double bogey

E.  A disappointing three putts from the fringe to a front pin for bogey.

#17

M.  Flies tee shot over the green 15 feet

E.  A nice tee shot 28 feet behind the middle pin

M.  Chips down the hill past the pin and two putts for bogey

E.  Records a 2 putt par with this match being over several holes back

#18  Thank goodness

M.  Drives down right rough leaving 147 yards in

E.  Pops up his drive, but still leaving only 78 yards

M.  Iron shot just short of the green.  Chips up and two putts for bogey.
