How to keep from getting hit or hitting someone with a golf ball

1.  Do not take your shot until players ahead are clear of any area where your best or worst shot may land.

2.  Don't hesitate to yell "FORE" if you accidently don't follow the above guideline.

3.  Clear the green and cart path areas around the greens in a timely manner.

4.  If you are in front of a shooting golfer, move sideways to an angle of at least 45 degrees

from his expected shot unless that shooting golfer’s initials are E.C., at which time you

should move at least 90 degrees, and find a tree to hide behind.

Teams or Cut Throat with 5 Players   1/10/2020

It will be determined by vote of the 5 players whether a match is played with two teams or five individual players in a cut throat game.  If two teams are chosen, the match can be played as a 2-some and a 3-some or a 5-some according to the desires of the majority of players.  If it is played as a cut throat match without teams, all 5 players must play in the same 5-some.

Scoring clarification effective 7/16/07

After discussions with senior board members the following should be used by all:

EAGLE     5

Birdie        3

Par            2

Bogey        1

Double Bogey.   When you reach this pick up ball and walk quietly to your cart.

Dropout Clarification effective 7/30/2015

There comes a time when someone might have to leave the course before your match is completed, whether for illness, injury, emergency, etc.  It has been determined if this happens it would be treated as if the person never was there.  His score is discarded and does NOT count for handicap or for the team bet.  If a greenie is forfeited due to the player quitting before the end of the round, it becomes a carryover for the remaining greenie players.

If you are planning to play 9 holes instead of a full 18 hole round and you are NOT a "declared" 9-hole player, your score will not be recorded and you will not participate in the team bets or greenies competition.

Greenie Clarification effective 09/18/2022

In order to play greenies, each player will contribute $1.00 to the greenie fund each day he plays greenies, and the monies will be divided up among the players who won greenies on each of the four par three holes.  If there is no greenie awarded on a hole, the greenie award will be doubled on the next par three hole.  If there are two par three holes in a row without greenies, the greenie award will be tripled on the next par three hole    If the match has no greenies on the last par 3 hole, the entire $1.00 greenie fund will be evenly distributed to those who had greenies in the match.  If a match has no greenies, no money will be contributed to the greenie fund, and none will be distributed.

If you fail to leave a ball on the green after hitting closest to the pin, and it remains closest through the rest of the golfers, your greenie will be forfeited and at the end of the match the next closest ball on the green will be the winner of the greenie.  If there are no other balls left on the green, the greenie will be awarded to the greenie winner of the previous par 3 hole.

If you fail to clearly mark your ball with your name or initials you may be subject to negotiations to prove your greenie ball actually belongs to you.

Round Cancellation Clarification effective 8/05/11

If play is not finished on the back 9, even if only 1 hole is left, that 9 is discarded along with greenies and birdies.

Closed Hole Clarification effective 8/12/11

If Windyke declares that a hole is closed, all groups will bypass that hole and count 1 point earned toward their individual score.  Also for example: If one group plays a hole while open and the hole is then closed for other groups the above rule still applies.

New Golfer Handicap & Greenie Requirements 10/17/14

A new member must play 3 rounds and have score recorded in order to establish a handicap target.  He will not be allowed to participate in a team bet until handicap is established. During this period the new member can declare if he would like to participate in the greenie competition.

What happens if you show up late?  2/12/15

If you don't arrive in time to be placed on a team before they tee off on #1 you are deemed late.  You are welcome to play, but your score will not be counted nor will you be allowed to participate in the team bets.  However, you will be allowed to participate in Greenie bets.  Everyone is encouraged to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the tee off time.

Red Tee (DGRTK’s) and Silver Tee Knockers

A player may advance to the red tees at age 75 if he so desires.  One may advance to the silver tees at age 80, again, at his discretion.  When advancing to the red tees, a one-time adjustment of 4 strokes will be added to his target score so that the betting remains fair for everyone.  Red tee knockers may advance to the silver tees on holes #10 and #12 on the West Course and hole #1 on the East Course.   Silver tee knockers who are playing greenies must hit from the red tees on all of the Par 3 holes on both courses until they reach age 85 years, at which time they may hit from the silver tees on Par 3 holes.  Ladies shooting from the silver tees may use silver tees on the Par 3 holes.

What to do if a Group Becomes a Single Golfer

A player is restricted from playing on a team with only one person unless only three people are present in a cutthroat match.  If players drop out from an established team, resulting in only one remaining player, that player will join the most appropriate team which will make the teams as even as possible.

The front 9 becomes an official 9 hole match including birdies and greenies..

Exception to the "Three players required for a Match"  If three players begin a match and one drops out after 9 holes it will revert to a cut-throat match beginning on hole #1.

9-Hole Golfer

1.     Declared 9-hole golfers may participate in team bets, greenies, and player-of-the-day competition just as though they were 18-hole golfers.  They will pay for each bet as though they were 18-hole golfers, but their score and their target will only count on the round in which they play (either front or back, but not both).  They will be paid according to how their team plays on BOTH front and back just as if they had played 18 holes.  Greenies and POD will be paid according to the 9-hole golfer’s individual performance.

2.     If 9-hole players start on the BACK, they will join the last team with fewer than 4 players playing that day.  If all teams have 4 players, the 9-hole golfer will not be allowed to play that day.

Ladies Playing Lake Holes

If you are a lady golfer and you hit your ball into one of the lakes on a Par-3 hole, you may use the same drop area used by the Windyke Ladies Golf League after taking a one-shot penalty for hitting your ball in the water.
